Neglected Congenital Scoliosis - dDeformity correction This 15 year girl from Iraq presented to us with deformity of back with a hump on left side and back pain. Her parents had observed the hump when she was of nine years old and it was gradually progressive. Since treatment for scoliosis was not available in her country pt came to us at Jaypee Hospital for treatment. Her Xray showed Lumbar and cervical hemivertebra with triple curves in Lumbar thoracic and cervical region. She also had kyphotic deformity with short trunk and body tilted to left side. Scoliosis surgery requires proper planning. After careful clinical examination and radiological evalution plan was made to do scoliotic correction with pedicle screws and Multilevel osteotomy ( Bone resection). The surgery was done under Neuromonitoring which increases the safety of surgery. Patient underwent pedicle screw fixation from T3 to L3 vertebra with Multilevel Ponte osteotomy and PSO at apex. Surgery took 6 hours and there was no neurological event . Patient was shifted to ICU for overnight observation and was shifted to ward next day. She was mobilised out of bed after 2 days and discharge from Hospital on Day 4. Her postoperative X ray showed significant correction of scoliosis with improvemnt in clinical appearance of patient. She had slight truncal shift to left but this is expected to improve in next 3 months.
